ABSTRACT: Thailand has a long history of wood carving, early wood carving in Asia was already done thousands of years ago. The earliest Thai carving were derived from Buddhist and Hindu mythology, some of them may have been stylistically inherited from the Khmer. Traditional style is created by the images of mythological creatures from India and dragons serpents from China, also they are derived from nature (a flickering flame). Changes were taken place during the 19th century from the modernization and influence of European style and customs. During the early 20th century, nature scenes of forest and animals appeared on the carved wood panels. Thai carving is a unique art reflecting Thai culture and it is different from other regions. The diversity of Thai carving proposed not only by regional and culture differences but also by individual skills and concepts.
