Abstract: The Taxodiceae species in the United States (US) comprise our largest living trees. ;The redwoods include sequoia and giant sequoia, which grow near the west coast in California and Oregon and are excellent tourist attractions. These trees are featured in federal and state parks such as Sequoia National Park and Muir Woods National Monument. The bald cypress (the range includes southeastern and south central US) are large beautiful trees that are located mainly in riverside wetlands. The wood products from all of these trees make use of thewater resistance and resistance to decay of the wood. Roof shingles, posts, caskets, and carvings are some of the uses for the wood of these species. Because of the emphasis on preserving old growth trees in the US, the older and larger trees are not being harvested as they were many years ago. The impact of these Taxociceae species on the wood culture of the US in our history and in the present will be discussed.

Many Taxodiceae species, including non-native species, are used for gardening and decorative bonsai or penjing (盆景) trees in the US. These beautiful trees with interesting foliage are used to enhance the beauty of homes and commercial properties throughout the country.
