摘要:
Saltpan with wood structure, located in Naxi Ethnic Township, Markam County, Changdu City, Tibet Autonomous Region, China, is the only way that primitive manual salt production with wood structure still retained on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, which has been listed into the national-level intangible cultural heritages. The well salt production techniques dating back to 1300 years ago Tang dynasty, there were more than 3600 wood structure salt pans on either side of the Lancang River in Jiada Village and Shangyanjing Village, Naxi Ethnic Township, preserving its original and ancient style.
According to the mountain terrain of the two sides of Lancang River, many logs with the length of 1-6 meters in the interlaced arrangement worked as support pillars, about 1m intervals, and a beam throughout those columns strongly formed the wood structure of salt pan. It had two levels, logs densely arranged in the first level, plank boarded in the second level. The plank was compacted and smoothed by yellow mud or red mud on two banks mixed with straw sprigs, the mud thickness 10cm, four walls height 13-18cm, forming a rectangular, shallow groove. Each salt pan covers the area of 6-10m2. Besides, the well salt production takes wooden utensils like brine barrel, salt storage tank and so on.

In this paper, the salt pan with wood structure in well salt production technology in Markam County was mainly considered, and the structure characteristic and the material types of wood structure salt pan, as well as the manufacturing processes of wooden utensils like brine barrel and salt storage tank were systematically investigated. Meanwhile, the folk culture concerning the processes of well salt production and the natural distribution of forest resources in Lancang River basin were surveyed. These could provide basic and supplementary references for protecting and inheriting the ancient well salt production techniques in Markam County.
